Book II · The Identity System

Layer 14: The Archetype → Design Primitives Master Table

The Grammar of Aesthetics

This chapter functions as the Lexicon of the System. It provides the technical mapping between the abstract Narrative Mask and the concrete Design Primitives required to maintain a stable signal. This table is the structural substrate upon which every visual and copy decision in the Identiy System rests.

The Invariants of the Compendium

Before consulting the table, the Operator must acknowledge these architectural constraints:

  • Monolithic Primary: One archetype governs the voice, the visual cadence, and the selection of artifacts. Any deviation must be a deliberate, secondary trait.
  • Teleological Primitives: Every element—every grid line, every typeface, every color—must have an identifiable job: capturing attention, building trust, or resolving action.
  • Constraints, Not Defaults: The table defines the Decision Space, not the final design. Two Sage-coded pages may appear visually distinct, but they will share the same underlying semiotic logic.
  • Structural Influence: The "Persuasion Emphasis" column describes the Architecture of the Site, not the adjectives in the copy. "Authority" is demonstrated through receipts and methods, not through claims of expertise.

The Taxonomy of Signal

Primary ArchetypePrimary Reward Signal (Need)Design PrimitivesPersuasion Emphasis
SageCompetence, Clarity, MeaningGrid discipline, strong typographic hierarchy, restrained palette, verification blocksAuthority + Consistency: Show the method. Evidence precedes the claim.
ExplorerAutonomy, Discovery, ExpansionJourney metaphors, open loops, map-based layouts, dynamic perspectiveCuriosity + Commitment: Invite small experiments. Each step expands the horizon.
MagicianTransformation, PossibilityBefore/after visuals, system architecture diagrams, high-contrast mechanismsReciprocity + Social Proof: Demonstrate what changes, then provide the receipts of transformation.
HeroAchievement, ChallengeHigh-octane contrast, goal-oriented language, milestone markers, performance metricsCommitment + Scarcity: Rally to a clear outcome. Name exactly what is at stake.
OutlawReform, Disruption, FreedomRadical statements, pattern interruption, named antagonist (the broken system), position-takingSocial Proof + Authority: Provide the data that proves the critique is correct.
CaregiverBelonging, Safety, SupportWarm human presence, accessibility-first layout, reassurance microcopy, service-forward headlinesLiking + Reciprocity: Provide genuine utility first. Make the care visible and artifactual.
CreatorExpression, Craft, InnovationArtifact-dominant layouts, beauty as evidence, visible iterative process, "In-the-Lab" imageryReciprocity + Authority: The process is the credential. Reveal the craft behind the curtain.
RulerOrder, Certainty, ControlInstitutional architecture, premium use of whitespace, operating-model visuals, executive restraintAuthority + Consistency: "This is the standard." Precision signals mastery.
InnocentSafety, Harmony, SimplicityLightness, natural imagery, unpretentious language, low visual entropyLiking + Reciprocity: Trustworthy because it is uncalculated. Warmth without performance.
EverymanBelonging, PracticalityPlain language, approachable imagery, pragmatic templates, high-legibility layoutsSocial Proof + Liking: "People like you succeed here." The signal of shared reality.
LoverConnection, Sensory BeautyRich sensory design, emotional resonance in copy, depth of field in imageryLiking + Scarcity: Experience as differentiator. Not for every mind—only for the resonant few.
JesterPlay, Irreverence, JoySurprise nodes, humor as insight, unexpected structures, light touch with high-density meaningLiking + Reciprocity: Earn the smile before earning the click. The laugh is the contract.

How to Execute the Mapping

  1. Select the Reward Signal: Calibrate your archetype based on the specific need your target market is seeking to fulfill. If your audience seeks Meaning, the Sage is your mask.
  2. Establish the Primitives: Utilize the design column as your Stylistic Filter. Every visual decision that deviates from these primitives increases the entropy of the signal.
  3. Architect the Influence: Review the persuasion column before building the site hierarchy. Ensure the required influence principles are embedded in the grid and page flow.

The Limits of the Taxonomy

In the Second Renaissance, clarity is the only bridge between intent and opportunity. For the student or individual practitioner, Identity Blur is a fatal state. While established institutions may blend multiple archetypes, the Sovereign Mind must present a monolithic, legible frequency until trust is secured.

This table is not a formula for a portfolio; it is the Technical Specification for a Mind. Use it to ensure your signal is never a hallucination.
